Since starting to post short form content 5 years I have seen a fundamental huge shift in content as a whole... You see before short form content people actually made videos for fun. They enjoyed the creative process enough to where they would subject themselves to being the weird person. Because the reality is 10 years ago you could actually make videos with the intention of being creative and sharing your "Art" with the world. Think early youtube days... The reality was the monetization path back then was unclear. Yes youtube did eventually put ads on videos and creators started making really great money but as it evolved the fun and creativity stopped and the goal of making a living started. This isnt a bad thing it just is what it is. But once Tiktok took over and Instagram made reels it changed again. The change? No one is creating any video without the intention of making money. You see... Becuase of the popularity of the creator economy and the current job economy everyone is creating out of desperation. Can I make money from this video? Will this video get me an ROI. How do I gain clout. All of these goals lead to needing to make money. You see... When everyone has these goals your goals must change. You see the old goals... Make video --> Gain Followers -- > Build trust --> Sell Something The new goal should be... Make video --> Quickly build trust --> Sell something YOu must remove the "Follower" from the equation. Not because followers are bad... But followers are just the by product of making videos and getting attention. everday people buy my speed to post and they do not follow me. They do however see my videos from organic posts and ads. Thats the shift. This is something that i struggle with everyday day just like am sure you do. Because quite frankly... This makes things really hard. Because everyday its like starting over. The old way you could fall back on your follower count. The new way you fall back on the algorithm. Which means instagram isnt social media anymore... Its Customer Aquisition. Talk Soon, Ryan P.S. I read every email and always love to hear how my stuff helps you feel free to reply anytime. |
it infuriates me that 99% off the world thinks that making videos is the hard part. It's not. The hard is building a machine that makes them when.. You are burnt out. You are busy. You are working on something else. You are pissed off. You are happy. You are sad. Etc... You see content is a operations business disguised and a creative one. Businesses could care less about how you feel and need content no matter what. The sad truth is most will never make enough content to learn this. The...
One of the most annoying problems with content and making videos comes pretty quickly for those truly trying to build a Business With content. Now to be clear if you are solo person making 1-3 videos and posting them to one or 2 platforms this wont effect you. But if you are like myself and others and you are posting 3-6+ times a day across multiple platforms this is what will drive you insane. Its the Actual posting of the videos. Yup...i said it. POSTING. It pains me to say that truthfully...
I have been thinking a lot about this lately. You see for the last 10 years the content itself was the product. You needed a fancy camera. You needed to know how to edit. You needed to manually type out the subtitles :) Heck you used to have to drive to the Apple store and buy a box that said Final Cut Pro and it cost $600 bucks. Now before you get mad hear me out. This is what I call a higher barrier of entry. In most cases the h igher barrier of entry the better the reward for doing the...
